Republican Scott Brown won re-election to the Senate (upper house of Congress) from the side of Massachusetts State. He leads with a considerable margin comparing to democracy party representative Martha Coakley, BBC transmits.

As a result of processing 87% of votes C. Brown is supported by 52% of voters, while his opponent - only with 47%. M. Coakley has already admitted defeat.

Place a senator in Massachusetts has remained vacant after the death of Edward Kennedy, 26 August 2009. Until now, Democrats in the Senate had 60 seats out of 100.

S. Brown will be 41st representative of the Republican Party in the upper chamber of Congress. His election gives the Republicans an opportunity to block a number of fundamental laws, conceived by the Democrats, including the reform of health care.
