Smurfs fans rejoice! Earlier this week it was announced that the television cartoon The Smurfs are making their way to the silver screen, led by none other than Neil Patrick Harris .

According to Variety, Alan Cumming , George Lopez and Jonathan Winters have all signed on to voice various characters and pop singer Katy Perry is in talks to personify Smurfette.

Cumming will lend his voice to Gusty Smurf and Lopez will take on the role of Grouchy Smurf. Winters, who voiced several smurfs for the 1980s Hanna-Barbera cartoon, will reprise his role as Papa Smurf.

Scooby-Doo director Raja Gosnell will direct The Smurfs for Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation studios and David N. Weiss, J. David Stem, Jay Sherick and David Ronn are attached to write the screenplay. The Smurfs is currently set to hit theaters July 29, 2011.
