Last year, when Jay-Z launched the promotion of his new album with a charity concert on 9-11 in New York City's famous Madison Square Garden, he put on a lavish production with big musical guests and a strong setlist of hits. Which isn't unusual for someone with 11 albums, 15 years of experience and hundreds of concerts under his belt. Now with ABSOLUT Vodka's sponsorship, rock photographer Danny Clinch's documentary "NY-Z" will give everyone a behind-the-scenes look at how the show came together and of course, delve a little into the personal history of Shawn Carter. Hopefully there will be some unguarded moments with his ride-or-die chick Beyonce and his "kid sister" Rihanna thrown in there as well.

Interestingly enough, one of Jay-Z's famous friends who turned out for the show and spoke on camera for the documentary is the now publicly-battered pancake John Mayer. In the documentary, Mayer waxes on about Jay's "infinite curiosity" and goes into stan mode, seeming veritably smitten by the rapper's swag. Jay hasn't made any comments about Mayer's Playboy verbal diarrhea, but at least he can rest easy if he leaves Beyonce alone with John Mayer, since he's a vanilla-only kind of guy.

The visual style of the documentary is similar to Jay's black-and-white "99 Problems" video. It even includes the obligatory shots of gritty New York and the Marcy Projects that Jay used to call home. This works, of course, to emphasize the rags to riches story that Jay's been selling for the past 15 years.
